UNIVERSITY OF THE WEST INDIES (UWI) SCHOLARSHIP
 
The Rotary Club of Antigua UWI Scholarship was launched in 2019 to assist Antiguan and Barbudan citizens  to attend the UWI Five Islands Campus in Antigua.
 

APPLICATION CRITERIA

 

Eligibility

The scholarship targets students who are enrolled in the University of the West Indies (UWI), Five Islands Campus, Antigua for a year of study leading to the completion of a Bachelor’s Degree. The applicant must be a citizen of Antigua and Barbuda  (proof of citizenship will be required).
 
The parameters for selection include but are not limited to academic excellence, financial need, personal motivation, educational and career goals, character, and extra-curricular activities.
 

Area of Study

The scholarship will be for the completion of Bachelor’s Degree in the primary areas of Finance, Accounting, Banking, Management, and other related business disciplines to include Human Resource Management, Economics and Information Technology.

 

Requirements

  1. A Citizen of Antigua and Barbuda
  2. A completed Rotary Club of Antigua UWI Scholarship Application Form and all requisite supporting information by the deadline.
  3. Copy of letter of acceptance from the University of the West Indies
  4. Applicant must be in good standing and have a minimum of a “B+” average or GPA of 3.5,  a transcript and school reference are required 
  5. Certificates of previous education (school leaving exams, degrees, etc.)
  6. Two (2) Letters of recommendation (work/academic)
  7. Two Government issued photo identification
  8. Two passport sized photos
  9. Curriculum Vitae (resume)
  10. Brief Statement stating educational objectives, career goals, financial need, past and current extracurricular activities and how the scholarship will help the applicant to reach his/her goals.
  11. The applicant will be required to sign an agreement to work for one (1) year in Antigua & Barbuda in the public or private sector.
  12. The applicant  shall not have been convicted of any felony (Police Report required)
  13. Maintain his/her enrollment status during the academic year.
  14. Demonstrate financial need
  15. Demonstrate Community involvement
  16. Applications should be submitted by 31st December, 2019 or by any other deadline indicated.
  17. Applicant must submit to an interview by the Rotary Scholarship Screening Committee
 

Scholarship Award

  1. The scholarship will be for one (1) final year of study.
  2. The continuation/renewal of the award at the end of each semester is conditional upon the Recipient’s
    1. Progress
    2. Conduct
    3. Maintenance of a minimum of a “B+” average or GPA of 3.5
    4. Remaining  a  full  time  registered  and  bona  fide  student  of  the  educational institution.
  3. Scholarship awards are to be applied towards tuition and may be applicable to university fees, books, supplies and/or equipment required for the courses at the educational institution.
  4. The award does not provide for the support of dependents either at home or overseas.
  5. Recipient cannot change from the programme of study submitted without the prior consent of the Rotary Club of Antigua, for which the Club may or may not grant its consent.

     6. The Rotary Club of Antigua reserves the right to use the name and/or photograph of scholarship recipients in the promotion of the Rotary Club of Antigua.
     7. Scholarship Awards will be made as early as possible prior to the commencement of the applicable semester.
     8. The Rotary Club of Antigua reserves the right to change the selection criteria, rules and or regulations relating to the scholarship at any time.
     9. The Rotary Club of Antigua reserves the right to determine if an award will be given and its decisions are final.
