Rotary Club of Antigua donates 1,000 washable and breathable masks to the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology
As the country faces the unprecedented impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Rotary Club of Antigua continues to help mitigate the spread of the virus through its recent donation of one thousand (1,000) washable and breathable face masks to the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.
Hundreds of 5th form students and teachers who return to the classrooms this week, in preparation for the upcoming Caribbean Secondary Education Council (CSEC) examinations, will be properly equipped with the required face mask.
During a brief presentation, on Friday May 15th, 2020, President of the Rotary Club of Antigua Dr. Vanetta Rodgers indicated that “observing the established protocol as it relates to protecting oneself from the potentially fatal COVID-19 disease should remain a priority. The Rotary Club of Antigua is very pleased to donate these masks to the Ministry which should serve as protection for the students and teachers.”
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Ms. Rosa Greenaway expressed profound gratitude to President Vanetta.
She stated that the “President was welcoming when I spoke to her. We were looking all around for masks and she quickly confirmed the Rotary Club of Antigua commitment to assist the Ministry. These masks will go a long way in safeguarding students and teachers from this global pandemic”.
The presentation took place at Rotary House, in the presence of Rotarians and representatives from the Ministry.
Since the spread of COVID-19 to Antigua, The Rotary Club of Antigua has:
- donated 500 masks to the Antigua and Barbuda Royal Police Force
- donated approximately 700 masks to the community and other agencies
- added hand sanitizers, masks, disposable gloves, carbolic soap, and disinfectant to its monthly Meals on Wheels pantry, which provides basic food supplies to 100 households
- Launched a Food Voucher Programme in partnership with the Mill Reef Fund, providing 400 beneficiaries and their families with food vouchers at a total value of $240,000.00 over a three months period.
The Rotary Club of Antigua is committed to its motto “Service above Self” and will continue to play its part in bringing needed assistance to communities in the areas of health, education and other social outreach projects.
