The Rotary Club of Antigua recently made a donation of computers, parts and other technological equipment to four educational institutions in Antigua and Barbuda.
The Rotary Club of Antigua recently made a donation of computers, parts and other technological equipment to four educational institutions in Antigua and Barbuda.
The gesture forms part of one of the Club’s signature programmes, “Computer for the World”, which is spearheaded by Past President, Cordel Josiah.
According to Past President Josiah, “the items were donated to our partner Club the Bellevue Breakfast Rotary Club of Washington State, for the Rotary Club of Antigua to donate to Schools in Antigua, namely ABITT, ABHTI, Antigua Grammar School and the TOR Memorial School.
The Mill Reef Fund in partnership with the Bellevue Breakfast Rotary Club provided funds for the purchase of the computer equipment”, he explained during the handover ceremony which took place at Rotary House.
He added that the Club remains committed to community and youth development in Antigua and Barbuda.Representatives from the four institutions have all expressed thanks for the respective donations, which will go a long way in enhancing the technological capabilities of the students.
The Rotary Club of Antigua in partnership with the Belleview Breakfast Rotary Club of Washington State is in its tenth 13th year of conducting the Computer for the World Project which began in 2008.
In this project, a team of Rotarians from Belleview Breakfast Rotary Club along with and a team of Cisco Systems IT Students and Teachers from the Newport High School in Belleview, Washington State have been coming to Antigua and Barbuda and have been installing computers in Government and Private Schools as a donation to the Ministry of Education.
The Clubs also partner for a Sewing Project, which teaches women how to sew, giving them the opportunity to become proficient in sewing and to be independent and self-sustaining.
The local coordinator is Past President, Cordel Josiah of Rotary Club of Antigua.
