The Unit’s Chief Executive Officer, Charmaine Donovan, presented a cheque in the sum of EC$25,000 to the Club’s President, Kevin Silston. Of the amount, EC$10,000 will be put towards expanding the oversubscribed COVID-19 Relief Food Voucher Programme, while EC$15,000 will be used to assist with the building of two new classrooms as the School for the Deaf.
The Unit also made a donation of school supplies to include bags, books, pens and pencils to the Club’s Back to School initiative.
In explaining the rationale behind the Unit’s decision to support the philanthropic organization in its efforts, the CEO said that the Unit has been seeking and utilizing opportunities for direct impact for all citizens.
“We think that it is important that fellow Antiguans and Barbudans are able to see the programme working for them in other tangible ways that what they have heard or believe. In providing support for the expansion of an important educational institution such as the School for the Hearing Impaired, along with the distribution of school supplies to children who are in need, is an investment in our country’s future and an intentional engagement with honoured social partners, whose charitable work improves the lives of us all”, Donovan explained.
She added that the CIU is committed to supporting impactful and innovative work, demonstrating a keen social consciousness and an obligation to community development.
In response, RCA’s President Silston, expressed profound gratitude to the CIU for such a timely and meaningful donation.
“We are really happy for this type of support and these are three major projects that impact the community directly. Two of them are geared towards assisting the development of our young minds and one of the focus areas for the Rotary Club this year is Youth Development and we are committed to making sure that our future leaders receive the best chances for being successful. The Food Voucher Programme has been oversubscribed from the inception and there are still a lot of persons who continue to reach out for assistance so we are truly grateful that we will be able to impact more lives in a positive way”, Silton said.
The presentation took place at Rotary House in the presence of representatives from the Citizenship by Investment Unit and Members of the Rotary Club of Antigua.
