September 10th, 2011 marks the 39th anniversary of the Rotary Club of Antigua. The Rotary Club of Antigua received its Charter on September 10th, 1972 sponsored by the Rotary Club of St. Kitts and Past District Governor Fred Lam.

 

The late Past President Alvin Apparicio was the Charter President with the first Club Secretary being Dr. Norman Athill.  Rotarian Lionel Walling is the only Charter member still in the Club today.  Another founding member is Honorary Rotarian Past President Paddy Benjamin.

 

There were 27 Rotarians registered in the Club for the year 1972 to 1973 and it was first listed in District 404 in 1972, then in District 4050 in 1981 and finally in 1982 was transferred to District 7030.

 

The first Club meetings were held at Meylock Inn and other venues have been Caribbean Beach Club, Blue Waters Beach Hotel, Halcyon Hotel, Royal Antigua Beach Resort and the current location of City View Hotel.

 

The Rotary Club of Antigua currently has 43 members and has been assisting in meeting the needs of our community in the areas of Health, Education, and Social outreach projects.

 

Rotarians are asked to continue to "Reach Within to Embrace Humanity" as they practice "Service Above Self" to make a difference in the human condition.
